Telomerase Inhibitor Definition
An agent that inhibits the telomerase, a ribonucleoprotein enzyme that adds telomeric sequences to the 3-ends of eukaryotic chromosomes, thus permitting proliferation of immortal cells beyond the limits of cellular senescence. Telomerase is active in most tumors cells, but is quiescent in adjacent normal cells. (NCI04)
