Toll-Like Receptor-7 Definition
Expressed in lung, placenta, spleen, brain, stomach, small intestine, and pre-dendritic cells by human TLR7 Gene (TLR Family), 104-aa 121-kDa (precursor) type I membrane protein Toll-Like Receptor 7 contains a TIR domain and 27 LRR repeats. TLR7 has a fundamental role in pathogen recognition and activation of innate immunity to microbial agents. Sharing structural and functional similarities, highly conserved TLRs recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns expressed on infectious agents and mediate cytokine production necessary for effective immunity. TLR7 likely acts via MyD88 (TIR interaction) and TRAF6, leading to NF-kappa-B activation, cytokine secretion and the inflammatory response. (NCI)
