Total Nottingham Score Definition

A scoring system used to determine the grade of invasive breast carcinoma. The total score is determined by the summation of three values (scores), each numbered 1-3. The three values correspond to the degree of tubular formation, the degree of nuclear pleomorphism, and the mitotic counts per 10 high power fields, respectively. The sum of the three values produces a total score of 3-9. Lesions with total score 3-5, are grade I; lesions with total score 6-7, are grade 2. Lesions with total score 8-9, are grade 3.
