Trichrome Staining Method Definition
Masson trichrome, a mixture of three dyes, is used to differentiate between collagen and smooth muscle in tumors, and increases in collagen in cirrhosis. The three dyes used are aniline blue that stains collagen and mucus to blue or blue green, the cytoplasm and muscle and keratin are stained red by Beibrich Scarlet and nuclei are stained blue to black with Weigert's Iron hematoxylin (From BioGenex).
