Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecule-1 Definition
Human vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 protein (739 aa, ~81 kDa) is encoded by the VCAM-1 gene (VCAM1). The protein is a ligand for integrins, which are specific binding molecules in the extracelullar matrix. VCAM-1 promotes the adhesion of immune cells and it is a molecular target for several pharmaceutical compounds.
