Vascular Endothelial Cell Growth Factor Antisense Oligonucleotide Definition

An antisense oligonucleotide with potential angiogenesis inhibitory activity. This oligonucleotide targets the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) protein family, which are upregulated in cancer cells and critical for the production of new blood vessels to support cell proliferation and survival. Vascular endothelial growth factor antisense oligonucleotide binds directly to and blocks DNA encoding VEGF, thereby preventing VEGF transcription and blocking VEGF protein leading to growth arrest of cells that need the formation of new blood vessels to survive.
