Human XRCC5 wild-type allele is located within 2q35 and is approximately 99 kb in length. This allele, which encodes ATP-dependent DNA helicase 2 subunit 2 protein, is involved in double-strand break DNA repair and chromosomal translocation. A rare microsatellite polymorphism in this allele is associated with cancer in patients of varying radiosensitivity.
