cAMP Responsive Element Binding Protein-1 Definition

Encoded as alternative A, B isoforms by human CREB1 Gene (bZIP/CREB Family), nuclear cAMP Responsive Element Binding Protein 1 is a homodimeric transcription factor containing 1 KID domain, phosphorylated/stimulated by several protein kinases, that binds to octameric DNA palindrome cAMP-response elements (CRE) present in many viral and cellular promoters and induces gene transcription in response to hormonal stimulation of the cAMP pathway. (NCI)
